The Narmer Palette

Narmer Palette artwork
Original Narmer Palette

Also known as the Great Hierakonpolis Palette, the Narmer Palette is a significant Egyptian archeological find, dating to the 31st century BC, It contains some of the earliest hieroglyphic inscriptions ever found. The tablet is thought by some to depict the unification of Upper and Lower Egypt under the king Narmer, the founder of the First Dynasty of Egypt.

Process

The first stage was making the decision about the general style. Although there are numerous stylistic trends for digital illustration nowadays, in this case, a search of the style was not really long and the decision was made to create this illustration in 2D, flat design with inspirations from Egyptian art. It matched efficiently with the general mood of the page as well as my personal style.

The next stage was the most creative part of the process which was classic pencil sketching. When all the ideas and sketches were finalized, it was time to edit a mock-up in Procreate and do a quick color check. The final was then converted into Adobe Illustrator and cleaned up.
